Small ash cloud was detected in BTD data to the south of Shiveluch volcano at 21:16 UTC. Examination of the MIR data at 18:06 UTC showed a strong thermal anomaly of a likely event. TIR data showed cloud top temperatures around -26 C or cloud top heights of 4 - 5 km ASL.

MIR data 18:06 UTC May 8, 2012 centered on Shiveluch volcano. Max MIR = 37.52 C. Background TIR = -13 C, so MIR is 50.52 C elevated above background.
