MIR signals from NOAA AVHRR data for three Kamchatkan volcanoes from 15:58 UTC on May 18, 2012. Note these are pixel integrated temperatures from the derived brightness temperatures at-sensor. Thermal radiances are measured at-sensor and converted to brightness temperature for each wavelength per band. Sub-pixel analysis would be needed to determine the actual thermal radiance from the ground activity.
Kamchatkan Peninsula view - MIR from 15:58 UTC on May 18, 2012. Alert volcanoes highlighted by yellow circles.
Karymsky volcano. MIR = 6.06 C, background TIR = -1.77 C, so thermal signals are 7.83 C above background.
Kizimen volcano. MIR = 5.14 C, background TIR = -0.36 C, so thermal signals are 5.5 C above background.
Shiveluch volcano. MIR = 1.86 C, background TIR = -2.9 C, so thermal signals are 4.76C above background.
