Alaid volcano, Northern Kuriles, has showed elevated thermal signals. October 17, 2012. See three images below.
Alaid volcano, 02:08 UTC, October 17, 2012
MIR = 65.34 C
TIR background = -2.88 C
MIR elevated above background = 68.22 C
Time averaged effusion rate = 13.3 m3/s (3 obs)
02:08 UTC 40 x 40 region as viewed in Google Earth
Alaid volcano, 02:59 UTC, October 17, 2012
MIR = 60.02 C
TIR background = -4.49 C
MIR elevated above background = 64.51 C
Time averaged effusion rate = 13.5 m3/s (4 obs)
Alaid volcano, 08:33 UTC, October 17, 2012
MIR = 32.1 C
TIR background = -7.8 C
MIR elevated above background = 39.9 C
Time averaged effusion rate = 13.5 m3/s (4 obs)
Note the last image is for pass with large satellite zenith angle and as such the MIR temperatures are lower as the thermal signal has been mapped to more pixels. This data needs to be corrected for pixel size and satellite angle.
