Volcanic ash mass determined from AVHRR data, Pavlof Volcano May 16, 2013


AVHRR BTD data annotated from 19:53 UTC. 63 km to the ESE. Strongest BTD of -2.0


Volcanic ash masses as displayed in Google Earth. With cloud top of 20 Kft, seems to be around 3.5 kT of ash, assuming 0 - 100 micron size range. Note the BTD method detects when there is fine dry ash in the cloud.
