Thermal signals continue at Shiveluch, June 14 - 15 212

Elevated MIR thermal signals seen from Shiveluch volcano from June 14 - 15, 2012. Below are three Kamchatka sector images from 18:08 UTC, 22:22 UTC on June 14 and 04:05 UTC on June 15 2012.

22:22 UTC, June 14

04:05 UTC, June 15 2012

Zoomed in on the 40 x 40 region surrounding the volcano shows the MIR and TIR signals.

18:08 UTC. MIR is at 60.87 C (saturation). Background TIR = -5.36 C, so MIR is 66.23 C above background. Satellite zenith angle = 32 degrees. Instant effusion rate = 18.9 m3/s or time averaged = 8.5 m3/s (10 observations)

22:22 UTC. MIR is at 65.97 C (saturation). Background TIR = -5.56 C, so MIR is 70.53 C above background. Satellite zenith angle = 4 degrees. Instant effusion rate = 19.6 m3/s or time averaged = 9.5 m3/s (11 observations)

04:05 UTC. MIR is at 43.97 C. Background TIR = -6.47 C, so MIR is 56.44 C above background. Satellite zenith angle = 48 degrees. Time averaged effusion rate = 10.3 m3/s (12 observations)
