Satellite based thermal signals at Kamchatka volcanoes: Kizimen, Shiveluch and Tolbachik. Cloudy conditions in webcam....

Satellite AVHRR MIR data collected through GINA and available to AVO remote sensing group and KVERT/SVERT for operations from UAF-GI

09:06 UTC on April 15, 2013. Here there are thermal MIR signals from activity at three volcanoes across Kamchatka. See below. The Yellow circles represent the elevated alert volcanoes as determined by KVERT - color codes for Kamchatka



Webcams for each volcano show cloudy conditions at the same time as the detected thermal signals from satellite data. This illustrates the use of satellite data to detect volcanic activity that might be impossible to see from ground level.
