Thermal signals from Kizimen, Tolbachik and Shiveluch volcanoes, April 16 2013

Here we see the AVHRR image from 08:54 UTC. A - shows the full sector image, with the color coded volcanoes as determined by KVERT. We can see evidence of three volcanoes with elevated MIR signals. The 40 x 40 region around each volcano is shown in B, C, and D. 

B - shows Shiveluch. Here, the maximum MIR signal is 42.33 C for the 1 km² pixel. This relates to a hot target, likely from the dome region.

C - shows Tolbachik. Here, the maximum MIR signal is 65.63 C for the 1km² pixel. This is the saturation temperature from AVHRR at the 3.7 micron wavelength MIR. Note the large number of AVHRR pixels with elevated thermal signals, likely from the lava flows.

D - shows Kizimen. Here, the maximum MIR signal is 9.97 C for the 1km² pixel. This relates to a hot target at the summit, likely from the incandescence we have been seeing in some of the overnight webcam data.
