Thermal signals from Kizimen, Tolbachik and Shiveluch volcanoes, April 16 2013

Here we see the AVHRR image from 08:54 UTC. A - shows the full sector image, with the color coded volcanoes as determined by KVERT. We can see evidence of three volcanoes with elevated MIR signals. The 40 x 40 region around each volcano is shown in B, C, and D.

B - shows Shiveluch. Here, the maximum MIR signal is 42.33 C for the 1 km2 pixel. This relates to a hot target, likely from the dome region.

C - shows Tolbachik. Here, the maximum MIR signal is 65.63 C for the 1km2 pixel. This is the saturation temperature from AVHRR at the 3.7 micron wavelength MIR. Note the large number of AVHRR pixels with elevated thermal signals, likely from the lava flows.

D - shows Kizimen. Here, the maximum MIR signal is 9.97 C for the 1km2 pixel. This relates to a hot target at the summit, likely from the incandescence we have been seeing in some of the overnight webcam data.
