Cleveland Volcanic Event, May 4 2013

AVO reported explosion in infrasound data from Cleveland Volcano at 13:00 UTC. http://avo.alaska.edu/xhr/report_archive.php?view=chron&mode=print&id=46511

Below are some example images from the satellite remote sensing data available for the region.


AVHRR data from 13:48 UTC showing ash cloud drifting to the ESE away from the volcano. This is now around 40 - 50 km from the volcano and elongated SE-NW.


AVHRR data from 15:17 UTC, large map now. Ash cloud continue to drift to the SE, now around 100 km from the volcano.


MIR AVHRR data from 13:48 UTC. Elevated thermal signals seen at the volcano from the activity.


MIR AVHRR data from 15:17 UTC. Brightness temperature around 50 C for 1km2 pixel.


MIR AVHRR data from 16:43 UTC. Brightness temperature > 50 C for 1km2 pixel.
